Arsenic and Flouride contamination of ground water are the two main challenges we are focused on as part of our Safe Drinking Water programme. Our research revealed that the deltaic region of West Bengal, India, is largely suffering from Arsenic contamination of ground water. Our direct areas of intervention are 156 communities and 38 schools of five blocks of Nadia and North 24 Pgs district of West Bengal, India, where we have installed our own Arsenic Removal Units to meet the crisis of the region, which have covered a population of 1.33 million as per 2001 census.
The western parts of the state of West Bengal, India, is at the same time suffering from the Fluoride contamination of ground water. To meet the crisis there, our technolgy partner, Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, have devised a large scale filter as well as a domestic filter which can successfully eliminate Fluoride contamination and make the water safe for drinking.
Apart from West Bengal SATHEE extended its support in the rural areas in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, where our Arsenic Removal Units have been installed by the invitation of the local government authorities.
